1. The Coloma Castle estate
The Coloma Castle rose garden is located in Flanders, in the town of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. Visitors can see and smell over 66,000 roses of 3,000 different varieties from all over the world. All in perfect condition.
The Coloma Castle estate covers 15 hectares and its rose garden is organized into four sections: the red and white garden, the Flemish garden, the old rose garden and the international garden. Roses are classified according to their geographical origin.
The estate also includes an orchard, offering the possibility of continuing your visit to the rose garden, amidst fruit trees of great diversity and beauty. The estate also boasts wide lawns, ideal for spending time with family and friends, where picnics are also possible. Last but not least, a brasserie with terrace, apparently to be recommended if the reviews on the Internet are anything to go by, is open to visitors, overlooking the castle and its filled moat.
2. Practical information
The icing on the cake: access to the entire estate is free, so you can enjoy it again and again, especially during the rose blooming period, from late May to October, with its peak of beauty in June.
The rose garden is open all year round (including public holidays): between April and September, from 9am to 8pm, and between October and March, from 9am to 5pm. However, it is closed every Monday!
A parking lot at the Castle's entrance makes parking free and easy.
3. Gourmet recommendation near Coloma Castle
Finally, as always, for ice-cream lovers, I recommend Il Gusto della passione, just a 10-minute walk from the Coloma Castle.
The ice creams are homemade and come in both classic and surprising flavors, as well as milkshakes, waffles and hot and cold drinks.
Last but not least, it's possible to sit outside for the duration of the tasting - how convenient!
